Project Overview
The Desert Guest House is envisioned as several volumes that intersect the principal public space. The sleeping volumes contain two guest suites with lower ceilings and are clad in shou sugi ban, the traditional Japanese technique of charred cedar siding. The material introduces warmth, texture, and contrast within the surrounding desert landscape.
The main volume is the principal living space and unites the two suites as well as the pool, which intersects the structure as an architectural element. The pool and roof deck stairs are articulated through the intersection and deconstruction of two rectilinear volumes.
The project reflects a refined contemporary approach to residential architecture, shaped by clear geometry, restrained materials, and a close relationship to the landscape.
